Synopsis of Glee Season 2 Episode 21
New Directions continues to strategize their set list for Nationals with a little help from Jesse St. James (guest star Jonathan Groff). Jesse convinces Will to attempt to use the “Vocal Adrenaline” method – by choosing one lead soloist and centering the entire show on their talents. He suggests the Glee club audition for the solo. Santana, Rachel, Mercedes and Kurt all audition. With Jesse and Will as judges, the four of them perform, though Jesse turns Santana down for being boring, Kurt for singing a “lady song” and Mercedes for being lazy. He tells Will that Rachel is the clear winner, something that angers Santana, Mercedes and Kurt. However, in the end Will decides to ignore Jesse’s advice and go back to their original plan of the whole group singing original songs.
At the same time, an angry Sue, after her sister dies of pneumonia, goes to desperate measures to prevent the New Directions from going to New York in one week by resending the tickets for Nationals to Libya. Finn and Kurt help put together a memorial service for Jean, inspired by her love of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the Glee Club sings “Pure Imagination”. An emotional Sue is unable to get through her eulogy and Will graciously comes to help her read it. Touched by his support, Sue tells Will he is a good friend and that she will no longer go after the Glee Club, wishing him “Good luck” for the first time.
After Jean’s funeral, Finn breaks up with Quinn realizing his true feelings for Rachel.[2] Quinn, angry and hurt, storms off. By the end of the episode, Finn pulls Quinn aside and thanks her for not quitting Glee Club because of their breakup. Quinn smirks and tells him she wouldn’t have quit, because it would’ve ruined her “big plans” for New York. A confused Finn asks what she means, but Quinn tells him that he’ll see.
It’s also seems that Jesse and Rachel are now together once more, because of a kiss near the end of the episode. It is also shown Finn was going to try and reconcile with Rachel, but when he sees them kissing, and he drops the flower he brought for her.
